Summary: Space may still be the final frontier, but Maxtor’s 160 GB 3000XT drive with (1384) firewire will let you boldly store more than you’ve dreamed. Back up your laptop, save all your mp3s, and hold every picture you/ve ever taken…or at least the first hundred thousand of them. Seconds after we plugged it into the firewire port on our XP laptop it showed up in "My Computer" ready to do business. 3 minutes later, it had absorbed 256 MB worth of tiffs, and was ready for more. It’s light enough to take along (2lbs10oz) , about the size of a hardcover novel, and the additional firewire port on the back means you can daisy-chain other devices, so you’re not even giving up your firewire port. If you’re considering a 4 to 6 Megapixel Camera….you’re going to need one of these.
