EPSON'S STYLUS PHOTO 2200

Epson 2200 Summary: Epson's $699 Stylus Photo 2200 inkjet printer represents one of the great advances in the history of color photography. Its 2880 dpi maximum resolution creates detail finer than the eye can see. Its color range, though not perfect, is extremely good. Its tonal gradation is excellent. And its 13" wide prints will last for decades. The 2200 uses the same 7 color UltraChrome pigmented inks its bigger siblings, the $2,995 24-inch bed 7600 and the $4,995 44-inch bed 96000 do, making it a great proofing tool for large-scale prints. Epson's also formulated an interchangeable Matte Black ink cartridge that delivers much higher density and contrast on non-gloss papers, including their new Velvet Fine Art that's made of 100% acid-free cotton. The Epson printer driver interface can be a little opaque, but once you set it up right, it does a very good job of nailing the right colors from the get-go. The photographs I printed with the 2200 are as sharp and have as much punch as any I've seen. I was also able to achieve effects that ranged from watercolors to steel-point etchings. This is a great printer for both professional photographers and regular folks who'd like to print family snapshots that'll last while. Highly Recommended. |
