Summary: Ideal either for a a text for a first course in Digital Photography or just to keep around as a tech resource, the second edition of Ben Long's Complete Digital Photography covers everything you need to know, from a the digital basics, how to choose a camera, and what you need in a workstation to a fairly complete course in Adobe Photoshop technique. The second edition includes many more color photos, and and includes a CD with Adobe Elements 2 and a number of other imaging software titles on it. The book is well written and referenced, as current as anything about computers can be.

The one thing I'd like to see included is a chapter on going from film to Ditigal, but the author does have just such an article on the Creativepro website called: "Making the Switch".

Ben Long also writes for MacWEEK and MacWorld, so it's no surprise that all the screen shots are from a Macintosh. The Mac is the standard in graphics, but he does give a fair shake to Windows systems and points out that programs like Photoshop run on either platform.
