Title: An Open Faced Laptop
by Ernest Lilley
Date: 03/10/03

Summary: I like tablets, but the twisty little hinges that designers seem to have fallen in love with strike me as a broken part looking for a place to happen. My suggestion (kicking around in my head since before tablet pcs were) is a laptop screen that folds backwards so that when it's all the way open, the keys are on the other side.

Given the toughened displays of tablets this isn't as dicey as it may sound, and it would let me do what I've always wanted...to use the tablet/laptop as a desktop display (see figure 3.) with an external keyboard and not have the redundant laptop keys in my way. Yes, in case you wondered...the sketches were done on my Gateway/Motion tablet.
