Title: CTIA 2003 - New Orleans
Reviewer: Ernest Lilley
Date: 03/24/03
Official Website : CTIA Wireless Show

Summary: When I think of the Big Easy, I think of coffee at the Cafe du Monde with beignets covered in powdered sugar, gumbo in small restaurants on the side streets of the French Quarter, and of course, the non-stop carnival that is Bourbon St..

Photos: l-r top - bottom:

1) "work smart...play hard" Wireless lifestyles were the talking point for the show. 2) The Big Question, asked by every moderator and talking head: What's the next killer app? The small answer: as much as the industry would like Wireless Data to rule, it's back to voice for core revenue. 3) 1xEV-DO But 3G wireless keeps on coming, and at the show Verizon rolled out it's  ultra-high speed CDMA access "With secure peak data transmission speeds of up to 2.4 Megabits per second (Mbps)". Test markets: DC and SanDiego. 4) Jabra's  Freespeak Bluetooth headset is sleek, comfortable and, at $99.95, the first headset to break the price barrier. With more and more communities going to "hands free" driving policies, Jabra is well placed for growth. 5) Sony/Ericson's fab P800 Bluetooth PDA/cell phone hovers over part of the auto/audio Bluetooth control in a demonstration. Yes, you can control the world with Bluetooth. 6) MobilBlogging jumped off this sign at me. It turns ot to be a pretty cool application for text/photo enabled cell phones. 7) Microsoft's Butterfly was there to protect us from bad content, and I'd certainly rather be protected by this pretty pest than the geeky grub they use in the TV ads. 8) The CF-18 ToughTablet from Panasonic was hidden away in a cage, but if you asked to see it, they were happy to pull out the 4 lb. portable. We're looking forward to playing with one. 9) Fashion In Motion reprised the enjoyable but improbably runway antics of a troupe of sleek and brawny models wearing wireless gear they wouldn't actually be caught dead it. I think I'd like it better if they actually smiled occasionally. The grim look makes them look embarrassed. 10-12) Wandering around the Big Easy after dark...watch out for gators and have some fun.
