Title: Just In Time Transit - JITTney anyone? 04/07/03

Summary: Wouldn't you like to be able to pick up your cell phone and call a service that automatically arranges ride shares? The technology is all in place for what I call Just In Time Transit, or JITT, for short.

Whether they use GPS or smart antenna arrays, cell phones can tell where people are, thanks to E911 requirements. Using smart maps computers can match my route to the locations of other riders and make up an instant ride share for all? Limo home from the club, anyone?

Other possible benefits would be to let you set up a limo for the evening with friends, restricting the invite list to people in the know. Or how about stores offering free rides via the service to customers?

Mass transit doesn't work because it has too many variables in it, and too few of them are under your control. JITT lets riders control their costs, timing, who they ride with, and where they go.
